1. Beacons Have Arrived!

The holiday season is over but there are still presents being opened at Sonic Notify.  We just received 2,000 pristine new beacons that are ready to emit the Sonic signal and you can purchase yours today for just $15!

The beacons come in two different styles, AC Beacons and Battery Beacons.  The AC Beacons plug into any outlet and provide a 15’ range of the inaudible Sonic signal.  These are perfect for retail locations, store aisles, or anywhere else that has an outlet.  The Battery Beacons project the signal at the same range as the AC Beacons, but give you the ability to connect with users on the move.  If you are at a conference and want to transfer content to people that come near you, just stick a Battery Beacon in your pocket and let the Sonic signal do the rest.  If you want to put a beacon in a place that has no outlets like a bus stop, the Battery Beacon will satisfy all your needs.  Log onto sonicnotify.com to sign up for a plan, then head to the Sonic Store to purchase your hardware.

  2. Making Channels, sometimes that involves dissolved copper

Read about the new 4.0 Sonic Notify? If you have you know it all about Channels. Channels are the things ( both physical and software) which output the Sonic data. Some of our channels actually require some building of hardware!!!!

Sometimes the back bathroom in the office gets taken over by Chris and the result, dissolving copper off PCB stock. While we dont manufacturer the beacons in house, we do make plenty of sample, demo, and scratch beacons while finalizing the design.

  4. Sonic 4.0 - LIVE

Sonic Notify has released its SAAS (Software-As-A-Service) offering for any and all companies to use along with it’s retail, commercial and enterprise grade hardware and tools. We know it took a while, but rest assured, the wait was worth while.
    .
Sonic Notify’s patent pending technology enables an data to be inserted into any audio environment imperceptible to the human ear. This data stream can be interpreted by any smartphone integrated witht he Sonic Notify SDK and can be used to deliver coupons and incentives in-aisle, interactive experiences in the live concert or sports space and second screen content through television.

Sonic has released it’s SAAS offerings that range in price from $100 to $5,000 a month and can be activated and used today.  Sonic has also released their first hardware offerings today that enable the audio data to be inserted into any audio environment, they include:

    Sonic Beacon (AC/Battery) - MSRP $15.00
A small battery or AC powered beacon that can be used to deliver the audio signal to a micro targeted location, for example an aisle a shelf in a super market.  The device range is 15ft for both the AC and Battery versions and the battery powered devices last for 4+ weeks on a single set of AA batteries.  These beacons are ideal for retail environments and conferences.

    Sonic Mini - MSRP $500.00
The Mini is a device that inserts the Sonic signal persistently into an environment similarly to an AC powered beacon, however where it differs is that it provides a time indexed or measurable signal enabling the content creator to understand when someone encountered a signal exactly.  Furthermore it enables unique types of content to be delivered, specifically synchronized effects like light-shows and more at live events. The Mini is ideal for live sports events or concerts.

    Sonic HD-SDI - Contact sales@sonicnotify.com
A product specifically targeted at Television networks and broadcasters that is installed after playout usually in master-control.  It is a 4U rack mount stack that includes full fault tolerance, multi-redundant states and a global bypass to ensure signal quality.  During signal encoding it checks loudness and envelope room to ensure distortionless encoding and the delay is 1 Frame & 3 Lines. The HD-SDI unit is ideal for network and live event broadcasters.

  5. Melvin Joins the Squad

Melvin Rayappa is one of the latest additions to the Sonic Notify team. While his intentional humor leaves much to be desired, he more than makes up for it in his fanaticism towards the New York Mets and rapper Mike Jones.  Melvin “just graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Engineering and Public Policy with an additional minor in Robotics, and will be graduating with a masters in ECE from CMU in Spring 2013 with a focus in embedded systems and control systems.” Some know Melvin as the “Seductive MATLAB Master;” but what he truly is, other than a great all around guy, is a super proactive and intelligent hardware-and-software intern over at Sonic. He really likes food.

  10. CONTAGION

All night hackathon to create the contagion

A bunch of us from the office decided to participate in the disrupt hackathon from saturday to sunday. Mostly because we thought it would be a good place to recruit, did we mention we are hiring?????. We decided when we got there to have some fun combining the sponsored api’s at the event and Sonic Notify. The result after 24 hours is

CONTAGION an iphone and web app which

gamifies and helps spread candid picture taking ( because people dont share enough.)

The basic premise is this. You start up the Contagion iphone app. You select the button to start a new contagion. This turns your phone into a transmitter of the Sonic Notify code which “infects” phones around you who also have the contagion app. Infected phones take a picture every few seconds and post to the cloud. The screen doesn’t allow for the selecting of your images, instead the shots are entirely candid and the view for the user is everyones photos in the contagion.

Now the cool part comes when the web app comes into play. Currently it just graphs vs time the photos taken for each contagion. But what we invisioned was a picture in which you could see each contagion geographically and then as one person from contagion A met with contagion B, the two contagions would merge and so would the photo streams.

So imagine you are at an event. You want to see whats happening in the front row or the balcony. You fire up Contagion and start a small pocket with the phones around you. But if a lot of people had the app, the contagion would spread throughout the space and create a whole snapshot of the event every few seconds.

We used Mobli for pictures, ATT Cloud Architect for the webapp, and City Grid for the local ads. A fun night.
